House of Shades

Nested within a quiet housing enclave in the central area of Bhopal, this renovation project is a two-story detached dwelling, designed for a multigenerational family. The formal concept of the house has been derived from the primitive idea to regulate the sun and control the amount of light penetrating from the south-west facing façade. The house has extended cantilevers that shade the southern and western openings with pivoted metal screens, which also ensures privacy on the terrace. Private corners and nooks screened from the main road stage moving shadows throughout the day.
